Beginning June 2, 2025, the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and the City of Commerce have started intersection improvements at SR 15 Alternate and Washington Street in Jackson County. The project is expected to be completed by June 13, 2025, weather permitting.
To facilitate construction, Washington Street is closed to thru-traffic until the work concludes. Message boards have been installed to inform motorists of the closure—two on SR 15 Alternate and one on Washington Street. The work will occur during daylight hours and involves temporary lane closures on SR 15 Alternate southbound for two days to support milling and paving operations. Flaggers will be present during these closures to assist drivers through the work zone safely.
Upon completion, Washington Street will transition to a one-way street where it joins SR 15 Alternate southbound. Vehicles turning onto Washington Street from SR 15 Alternate must now use the designated turn at the concrete island. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and stay alert while traveling in the area.
“GDOT thanks the public for their patience as these intersection improvements are made to enhance traffic flow and safety.”
