Senate Majority Leader Jason Anavitarte has announced plans to dedicate the intersection of State Route 92 at Cedarcrest Road in Paulding County as the Sgt Major John Barry Dean Memorial Intersection.
“Sgt Major Dean not only served honorably as a Marine for nearly 40 years, but also served Paulding County Schools with great care and compassion for more than six years,” said Sen. Anavitarte. “His bravery and service protecting the people of this great nation and his deep appreciation for public education did not go unnoticed. Dedicating this intersection in his name will symbolize our community’s gratitude and continued support for service members and leaders in education alike. As Senate Majority Leader, I will always work to support Georgians who have dedicated themselves to lives of service, whether active or inactive.”
Rep. Joseph Gullett also commented on Sgt Major Dean’s legacy: “John Dean was the kind of leader whose impact endures long after he’s gone. This intersection stands as a simple but powerful reminder of his lifelong service to others.”
Sgt Major John Barry Dean died at age 75 at his home in Dallas, Georgia. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1968 and served over 36 years as an avionics technician before being elected to the Paulding County School Board in 2018, where he contributed more than six years.
Senator Anavitarte represents Georgia’s 31st Senate District, which covers Polk County and part of Paulding County.
