The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced a series of lane closures on Interstate 16 and Interstate 95 in Chatham County as part of the ongoing 16@95 Improvement Projects. These closures, scheduled from Monday, August 11 through Saturday, August 16, are necessary for the widening of I-16 and reconstruction at the I-16/I-95 Interchange.
During daytime hours, motorists can expect intermittent right- and left-lane closures on I-16 westbound between the I-16/I-516 Interchange (milepost 164) and the I-16/I-95 Interchange (milepost 157) from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Similar closures will occur on I-16 eastbound in the reverse direction from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as on I-516 in both directions at the I-16 Interchange during slightly extended hours.
Nighttime work will include intermittent lane closures on both interstates between these same points from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., along with double-lane closures on sections of I-95 near the I-16 overpass between mileposts 98 and 101 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Detours have been planned for affected ramps. For example, those traveling westbound on I-16 wishing to access northbound I-95 will be rerouted via Exit 157 to southbound I-95, then exit at State Route 204 before rejoining northbound traffic. Eastbound drivers heading for westbound I-516 will be directed onto local roads including US Highway 17/US Highway 80/Ogeechee Road before accessing their intended route.
A long-term closure is also underway for Tremont Road under I-16 until August 31, 2025. Alternate routes using Telfair Road and West Gwinnett Street have been provided for affected motorists.
