The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced a series of temporary interstate lane closures as part of the I-285/I-20 West Interchange project in Fulton and Cobb counties. The closures are scheduled to begin Monday, December 8, and will continue through Friday, December 12, with work occurring primarily during overnight hours.

The project involves reconstruction and widening of several ramps at the interchange, as well as the addition of collector-distributor lanes, connecting lanes, and auxiliary lanes along I-20 west and I-285 north of the interchange. These improvements are aimed at enhancing traffic flow and safety in the area.

Lane closure schedules include single and double lane closures on both northbound and southbound sections of I-285 between Cascade Road and Bolton Road, as well as from US 78/Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway to SR 139/MLK Jr. Drive. Pacing operations affecting all lanes will also take place on certain segments during midday hours.

On I-20 westbound, there will be right-lane closures from Anderson Avenue underpass to Riverside Parkway nightly. Pacing operations will occur between SR 139/MLK Jr. Drive and the interchange with I-285 during late morning hours. Eastbound traffic on I-20 from Riverside Parkway to the interchange will see alternating single lane closures each night.

Additional work is planned for state routes in the area: SR 70/Fulton Industrial Boulevard southbound from Wendell Drive to Shirley Drive; SR 139/MLK Jr. Drive northbound from Old Gordon Road to Adamsville Drive; Collier Drive from Harwell Road to Collier Court; Delmar Lane from Arlington Drive to Harwell Road; and Harwell Road from Collier Drive to Amhurst Drive—all featuring various lane or flagging operations during overnight periods.

Motorists are advised that exact closure times may change due to weather conditions. There may be intermittent traffic pacing along with additional ramp or lane closures within work zones not listed in this notice. Drivers should expect delays, use caution while traveling through construction areas, reduce speed when approaching work zones, stay alert for workers, and consult real-time information before starting their trips by calling 511 or visiting https://511ga.org/.
