The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced a series of interstate lane closures for the 16@95 Improvement Projects. The work, scheduled from Sunday, November 23 through Tuesday, November 25, will focus on widening Interstate 16 (I-16) and reconstructing the I-16/I-95 Interchange. Lane closures are also planned for bridge work at the I-16/I-516 Interchange.
Daytime lane closures will occur between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on sections of I-16 westbound and eastbound, as well as on I-516 in both directions at the I-16 Interchange. Nighttime work is set to take place from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., including double-lane closures on I-95 near the I-16 overpass.
Several detours will be implemented during nighttime hours to accommodate ramp closures at various points along I-16 and I-95. Only one ramp in either the I-95/I-16 or the I-16/I-516 Interchange will be closed at a time to maintain traffic flow.
A long-term closure remains in effect for Tremont Road under I-16 until December 14, 2025. Motorists using this route are directed to follow signed detours via Telfair Road, West Gwinnett Street, and I-516.
To minimize disruptions during Thanksgiving travel, no road closures or construction activities that restrict traffic will take place from Wednesday, November 26 at 5 a.m. through Sunday, November 30 at 10 p.m.
Georgia DOT cautions that schedules may change due to weather conditions and advises drivers to expect delays and exercise caution when traveling through work zones. The agency encourages motorists to stay alert for workers and check real-time traffic updates by calling 511 or visiting https://511ga.org/.
