Daytime and nighttime lane closures are scheduled on several interstates in Chatham County as part of the 16@95 Improvement Projects. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced that from Monday, December 29 through Tuesday, December 30, there will be intermittent right and left lane closures on I-16 westbound between the I-16/I-516 Interchange (milepost 164) and the I-16/I-95 Interchange (milepost 157) from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. During the same days, I-16 eastbound will have similar closures from the I-16/I-95 Interchange to the I-16/I-516 Interchange between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Additionally, both directions of I-516 at the I-16 Interchange will see intermittent lane closures: westbound from milepost 5 to milepost 6 and eastbound from milepost 6 to milepost 5 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Nighttime work is also planned for December 29 and December 30, with intermittent right and left lane closures on both directions of I-16 between its interchanges with I-516 and I-95 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Double lane closures are set for I-95 northbound at the I-16 overpass (mileposts 98 to 100) and southbound (mileposts 101 to 98) during these hours.
Further nighttime work includes intermittent right and left lane closures on both directions of I-516 at the I-16 Interchange from mileposts five to six, scheduled for December 29 through December 30 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Motorists traveling north of I-16 on Tremont Road should use Telfair Road northbound, turn right onto West Gwinnett Street, then right onto eastbound I‑516 before exiting at Tremont Road (Exit 4). Those traveling south of I‑16 should take westbound I‑516 to West Gwinnett Street (Exit 6), turn left onto West Gwinnett Street, then left onto Telfair Road for access north of I‑16.
No construction activities or traffic restrictions will occur during holiday periods beginning Tuesday, December 23 at 6 a.m. until Sunday, December 28 at 10 p.m., as well as Wednesday, December 31 at 5 a.m. until Friday, January 2 at 5 a.m., according to GDOT policy.
