The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced a series of lane and ramp closures on Interstate 16 (I-16), Interstate 95 (I-95), and Interstate 516 (I-516) in Chatham County as part of the ongoing 16@95 Improvement Projects. These closures, scheduled from Sunday, February 22, through Saturday, February 28, are intended to support widening activities on I-16 and bridge work at the I-16/I-516 Interchange.

Daytime closures will occur between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., affecting both directions of I-16 and I-516 near their respective interchanges. Nighttime closures are planned from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., with double-lane closures on I-95 near the I-16 overpass between mileposts 98 and 101 occurring from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Detours have been established for affected ramps at the I-16/I-516 Interchange. Only one ramp will be closed at any given time to maintain traffic flow. For motorists traveling eastbound on I-16 who need to access either direction of I-516, alternate routes using West Gwinnett Street or US 17/US 80/Ogeechee Road have been outlined.

The Department notes that these schedules may change due to weather conditions and that intermittent traffic pacing or additional closures may occur within the work zones. Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, reduce speed in work areas, remain alert, and watch for workers.

No road closures or work restricting traffic will take place during St. Patrick’s Day holiday restrictions from noon on Friday, March 13, through Wednesday morning, March 18.

For real-time updates on construction status and traffic conditions, drivers can call 511, visit https://511ga.org/, or use the Georgia 511 app.
