The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced a series of lane and ramp closures for the 16@95 Improvement Projects. The work will take place from Monday, September 8, through Saturday, September 13. Closures will affect both daytime and nighttime travel on I-16, I-95, and I-516 in the vicinity of Savannah.

During daytime hours, intermittent right- and left-lane closures are scheduled on I-16 westbound between the I-16/I-516 Interchange (MP 164) and the I-16/I-95 Interchange (MP 157) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., as well as on I-16 eastbound between those same interchanges from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Additional lane closures are planned for both directions of I-516 at the I-16 interchange.

Nighttime work includes further intermittent lane closures on these stretches beginning at 7 p.m., with some double lane closures on I-95 northbound and southbound at the I-16 overpass occurring from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Several detours are planned during nightly ramp closures between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Detours will be scheduled so they do not conflict with each other, and no more than one ramp in either the I-95/I-16 or the I-16/I-516 interchange will be closed at any time. For example, motorists traveling westbound on I-16 seeking to access northbound or southbound I-95 will need to follow posted detour routes via exits such as State Route (SR) 204 or US Highway 80.

Long-term roadwork continues beneath I-16 on Tremont Road until October 19, 2025. Drivers are advised to use alternate routes via Telfair Road, West Gwinnett Street, and corresponding ramps depending on their direction of travel.

According to Georgia DOT, “Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways. We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs. And we help local governments maintain their roads. Georgia DOT and its nearly 4,000 employees are committed to delivering a transportation system focused on innovation, safety, sustainability and mobility. The Department’s vision is to boost Georgia’s competitiveness through leadership in transportation.”
