The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office reported the booking of Jose Gregonio Hevia Finol on April 13 for public indecency and sexual battery and placed a hold for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), according to booking records.

The case involves several misdemeanor charges, including two counts of public indecency and one count each of sexual battery and reckless driving. The sheriff’s office also confirmed that a federal immigration detainer was placed during local processing.

Georgia law enforcement partners with ICE on operations targeting sex offenders. One such action resulted in the administrative arrest of 18 noncitizens across the state for sex-related offenses, according to the agency.

A press release from the Department of Homeland Security shows that nearly 70% of ICE arrests involve illegal aliens charged or convicted of crimes in the United States. Operations have included individuals with multiple convictions for child molestation, rape, and sexual battery.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office operates under Sheriff Kevin B. McCook at 555 Stan Evans Drive in Jefferson, providing law enforcement services throughout the county and coordinating with federal partners such as ICE when necessary, according to its website.
