Jamie Boswell has been elected chair of the State Transportation Board (STB) of Georgia, according to an announcement following the board’s monthly meeting on August 21. Dennis McEntire was elected vice chair and Tim Golden will serve as secretary. The leadership changes are effective immediately. These elections occur annually to provide representation from all regions of Georgia at the executive level.

Boswell represents Georgia’s 10th Congressional District, which includes counties such as Barrow, Clarke, Elbert, Franklin, Greene, Gwinnett, Hart, Henry, Jasper, Madison, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Putman, Taliaferro, Walton and Wilkes. He joined the board in 2013 and has previously served as vice chair and secretary. Boswell graduated from the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business with a major in real estate and also attended Georgia Tech. He is president and owner of the Boswell Group.

The STB consists of 14 members who set policy for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). Each member is chosen by a caucus made up of General Assembly members from their congressional district for staggered five-year terms. More details about current board members can be found at https://www.dot.ga.gov/GDOT/Pages/Board.aspx.

Georgia DOT oversees planning and maintenance for state and federal highways as well as involvement in bridge projects, public transit initiatives, railroads and local government road support. The department employs nearly 4,000 people across these programs with a stated goal to improve transportation through innovation and safety.

“Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways. We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs. And we help local governments maintain their roads. Georgia DOT and its nearly 4,000 employees are committed to delivering a transportation system focused on innovation, safety, sustainability and mobility. The Department’s vision is to boost Georgia’s competitiveness through leadership in transportation,” according to the department statement.
