Jason Willingham has been appointed as the district engineer for District 4/Southwest Georgia, effective May 16. He takes over from Scott Chambers, who is retiring at the end of the month after serving since 2021. Willingham previously held the position of District Preconstruction Engineer since April 2020.

“I am excited and honored to continue to serve the traveling public and the citizens of Georgia as the Georgia Department of Transportation’s District 4 Engineer,” Willingham stated.

In his new role, Willingham will oversee operations across 31 counties in Southwest Georgia, managing a staff of around 400 people. The district engineer’s responsibilities include collaboration with the State Transportation Board and local and state government officials.

Corbett Reynolds, Georgia DOT Director of Field Services, praised Willingham’s “expertise and leadership” as key to advancing district initiatives. Willingham holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from Southern Polytechnic State University and a master’s degree from the University of Tennessee. He is also a licensed Professional Engineer with extensive experience in roadway design roles at Georgia DOT.

Willingham resides in Irwin County with his wife Courtney and their two children, Grayson and Adalynn.

The district office is located at 710 W. Second Street in Tifton. Additional area offices are situated in Valdosta, Douglas, Donalsonville, Moultrie, and Albany. More information can be found on GDOT’s website.

The Georgia Department of Transportation emphasizes its commitment to providing a safe transportation system that supports economic growth while being environmentally conscious.
