Longtime Georgia legislator and State Transportation Board member Johnny Floyd will be honored with the dedication of an interstate highway interchange in Cordele. The Interstate 75 at US 280 in Cordele will be named the Honorable Johnny Floyd Interchange. The ceremony is set for 10 a.m. on Friday, June 27, outside the Fairfield Inn & Suites at 2001 16th Ave. East (US 280).
Floyd, who passed away in 2024 at the age of 86, dedicated over three decades to public service. State Rep. Noel Williams Jr. introduced a resolution to acknowledge Floyd’s “leadership and his deep personal commitment to the welfare of the citizens of Georgia.”
During his career, Floyd served in the Georgia House of Representatives and was later elected to the State Transportation Board in 2008. His constituents included residents of Crisp, Dooly, Pulaski counties, and parts of Houston County. He was vice chairman of the House Transportation Committee and served on several other committees.
On the State Transportation Board, representing Congressional District 2, Floyd focused on economic development for rural areas, urban commuter mobility, and freight route development for Georgia’s ports and logistics industry. He held positions as chairman, vice chairman, and secretary until he chose not to seek reelection in 2023.
