Construction work on the 16@95 Improvement Projects will result in several lane and ramp closures on Interstate 16, Interstate 95, and Interstate 516 in Georgia during August. The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) announced that these closures are needed for ongoing efforts to widen I-16 and reconstruct the I-16/I-95 Interchange.

Daytime lane closures are scheduled from Monday, August 4, through Saturday, August 9, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. These will affect both westbound and eastbound lanes of I-16 between the I-16/I-516 Interchange (milepost 164) and the I-16/I-95 Interchange (milepost 157), as well as sections of I-516 near the I-16 Interchange.

Nighttime closures will take place from August 4 through August 9, with intermittent right and left-lane closures on I-16 and I-516 from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., and double-lane closures on I-95 at the I-16 overpass from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Advance notice has been given for detours related to ramp closures during nighttime hours. For example, drivers traveling on I-16 westbound seeking access to I-95 northbound or southbound will be directed onto alternate routes using exits at SR 204 or US Highway 80.

A long-term closure is also in effect for Tremont Road under I-16 until August 31, 2025. Motorists are advised to use Telfair Road northbound, West Gwinnett Street, and then access Tremont Road via the exit at I-516 eastbound.

Additional daytime and nighttime lane closures are planned for later in August—specifically from August 11 through August 23—on the same interstate segments. Ramp detours during this period will be coordinated so that no more than one ramp in either interchange is closed at any time.

The Georgia DOT states: “Closures and detours will be coordinated to ensure proper maintenance of traffic.”
