The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced upcoming lane and ramp closures as part of the 16@95 Improvement Projects. These projects aim to widen I-16 and reconstruct the I-16/I-95 Interchange, with additional bridge work planned at both the I-16/I-95 and I-16/I-516 interchanges.

According to Georgia DOT, weather permitting, construction partners will implement both daytime and nighttime closures over the next several weeks. The closures are necessary for ongoing widening activities on I-16, as well as bridge work on I-95 and at the I-16/I-516 Interchange.

For the week of Sunday, February 1 through Saturday, February 7, intermittent right and left lane closures will occur during daytime hours on sections of I-16 westbound from the I-16/I-516 Interchange (milepost 164) to the I-16/I-95 Interchange (milepost 157), as well as on eastbound lanes between these points. Similar closures are scheduled for portions of I-516 in both directions near the interchange with I-16.

Nighttime work during this period includes intermittent lane closures along these same stretches from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., with double-lane closures scheduled for parts of I-95 northbound and southbound at the I-16 overpass between mileposts 98 and 101.

From Sunday, February 8 through Saturday, February 21, similar patterns of daytime and nighttime lane closures will continue across these corridors. In addition to regular lane restrictions, several ramp detours are planned during overnight hours. Each detour is scheduled so that no more than one ramp in either major interchange is closed at any given time. Detours will be coordinated to maintain traffic flow.

Motorists affected by ramp closures will be directed via signed detour routes using nearby exits such as West Gwinnett Street, Chatham Parkway, SR 204 (Exit 94), US Highway 80 (Exit 102), or Dean Forest Road depending on their intended direction or connection between interstates.

Georgia DOT encourages drivers seeking daily updates or real-time traffic alerts related to these projects to visit Georgia NaviGAtor at www.511ga.org.
