The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced a series of lane and ramp closures on Interstate 16, Interstate 95, and Interstate 516 as part of the ongoing 16@95 Improvement Projects. These projects aim to widen I-16 and reconstruct the I-16/I-95 Interchange.

According to Georgia DOT, the scheduled closures are necessary for activities including road widening on I-16, bridge work on I-95, and improvements at the I-16/I-516 Interchange. The department states that all construction schedules are weather permitting.

From Sunday, February 8 through Saturday, February 14, motorists can expect intermittent right and left lane closures during daytime hours on sections of I-16 westbound from the I-16/I-516 Interchange (milepost 164) to the I-16/I-95 Interchange (milepost 157), as well as on eastbound lanes in the reverse direction. Similar intermittent closures will occur on both directions of I-516 near its interchange with I-16.

Nighttime work during this period will include additional intermittent lane closures along these same corridors between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m., as well as double-lane closures on both northbound and southbound lanes of I-95 at the I-16 overpass.

Advance notice has been provided for detours affecting ramps connecting these highways. For example, drivers traveling eastbound on I-16 who wish to access eastbound I-516 should follow posted detour routes via West Gwinnett Street.

Projected closures for the following two-to-three weeks—February 15 through February 28—mirror those scheduled earlier in February. Daytime and nighttime intermittent lane restrictions will continue along stretches of I-16 and I-516, with additional double-lane night closures planned for segments of I-95 at the overpass with I-16.

Multiple ramp detours are also scheduled throughout this period. Each closure is coordinated so that no more than one ramp in either major interchange is closed at any given time to help maintain traffic flow.

Georgia DOT encourages motorists to consult real-time traffic alerts and daily updates through Georgia NaviGAtor at www.511ga.org for up-to-date information about traffic impacts related to these improvement projects.
