The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced temporary interstate lane closures related to the I-285/I-20 West Interchange Project. The closures are necessary for geotechnical borings and utility location work ahead of upcoming construction. Weather permitting, these activities will occur nightly at various locations as part of efforts to reconstruct and widen several interstate ramps at the interchange.
The project will include adding collector-distributor lanes or connecting lanes and auxiliary lanes along I-20 west and I-285 north of the interchange. The nighttime closures are scheduled from Monday, July 7, through Friday, July 11. During this period, specific locations will experience single right-lane and right-shoulder closures.
Motorists can expect these closures on Six Flags Parkway from Lee Industrial Boulevard to South Service Road between 7 p.m. and 6:30 a.m., as well as on Harwell Road, Delmar Lane, Fairburn Road, and Collier Drive between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Additionally, there will be closures on I-20 westbound from Anderson Avenue underpass to Riverside Parkway and on I-285 southbound from US 278/State Route (SR) 8/Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway to SR 139/Martin Luther King Jr. Drive between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Further alternating single-lane closures will occur on I-20 eastbound from Riverside Parkway to the I-285 Interchange during the same hours, with double-lane closures happening later in the night until early morning.
“Advisory: Exact time may change due to weather conditions,” stated Georgia DOT. Motorists should anticipate delays and exercise caution while traveling through work zones. Real-time updates on work status and traffic conditions can be accessed by calling 511 or visiting the website at 511ga.org.
