Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced temporary lane closures on the I-285/I-20 West Interchange project. The closures are scheduled to allow for geotechnical borings and utility location work, which is part of preparations for upcoming construction.
The project aims to reconstruct and widen several interstate ramps at the interchange, as well as add collector-distributor lanes, connecting lanes, and auxiliary lanes along I-20 west and I-285 north of the interchange.
Daytime closures will occur from Monday, July 28, through Thursday, July 31, between 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. These will involve traffic pacing operations on I-285 southbound from South Cobb Drive to the I-20 interchange.
Nighttime closures are planned from Monday, July 28, through Friday, August 1. These will take place from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., with single right-lane and right-shoulder closures on SR 70/Fulton Industrial Boulevard southbound and SR 139/Martin Luther King Jr. Drive northbound.
Additionally, nighttime closures from Monday, July 28 through Friday, August 1 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. will include single right-lane and right-shoulder closures on I-20 westbound and alternating single lane closures on I-20 eastbound.
Motorists should expect delays due to these operations. Georgia DOT advises drivers to exercise caution in work zones and suggests checking real-time information via phone or online before traveling.
