The Georgia Department of Transportation announced that lane closures and a new traffic pattern will begin May 28 at the intersection of State Route 81 and New Morn Drive as part of roundabout construction.

According to the announcement, the changes are necessary to move into stage three of the roundabout project, which involves building the center island and concrete medians. Traffic on both SR 81 and New Morn Drive will shift into a circle pattern at the intersection during this phase.

Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. The department recommends checking real-time information on work status and traffic conditions by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or using the Georgia 511 app.

The Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs, and maintains state and federal highways in Georgia. The agency is also involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike, and pedestrian programs. It works with local governments to help maintain roads across the state.
