Interstate lane and ramp closures are scheduled in Chatham County as part of the 16@95 Improvement Projects, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). The work will take place from Monday, August 18, through Saturday, August 23. Both daytime and nighttime closures will affect sections of I-16, I-95, and I-516.
Daytime intermittent right- and left-lane closures on I-16 westbound between the I-16/I-516 Interchange (milepost 164) and the I-16/I-95 Interchange (milepost 157) are set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., while similar closures on eastbound lanes will occur from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Closures are also planned for both directions of I-516 at the I-16 Interchange.
Nighttime intermittent lane closures on these same stretches will be in effect from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., with double-lane closures scheduled for portions of I-95 near the I-16 overpass between mileposts 98 and 101 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
A continuous closure is planned from Friday, August 22, through Monday, August 25, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., affecting both directions of I-16 at the I-16/I-516 Interchange.
Detours will be coordinated during ramp closures each night between August 18 and August 23 from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., impacting connections between I-16 and both northbound and southbound lanes of I-95 as well as access ramps at Exit numbers including Exit 157B, Exit 157A, Exit 99B, Exit 99A, Exit 94, and Exit102.
Tremont Road under I-16 remains closed until August31,2025; alternate routes using Telfair Road or West Gwinnett Street are advised for motorists traveling north or south of this section.
The GDOT advises that exact closure times may change due to weather conditions. Additional traffic pacing or unplanned lane restrictions may occur within work zones. Motorists should expect delays, use caution when driving through construction areas, reduce speed, remain alert for workers on site, and check real-time traffic updates by calling511 or visiting https://511ga.org/.
