The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced upcoming lane closures for the I-285/I-20 East Interchange project, contingent on weather conditions. This project aims to reconstruct ramps at the interchange and add collector-distributor and auxiliary lanes along I-20 east of the interchange and I-285 north of it.
From May 30 through June 6, 2025, drivers should anticipate traffic impacts in several areas. Daytime closures will occur from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., with single-lane closures on I-20 Eastbound from Wesley Chapel Road to Panola Road and Columbia Drive to Wesley Chapel Road. Similar closures will affect connecting lanes between the I-285 Interchange and Wesley Chapel Road. Additionally, flagging operations are scheduled for Snapfinger Road under the I-285 overpass and Miller Road between Panola Industrial Boulevard and Chatooga Drive from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Overnight closures and traffic pacing will take place from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., with lane reductions on I-20 Eastbound from Wesley Chapel Road to Panola Road, connecting lanes from the I-285 Interchange to Wesley Chapel Road, and Columbia Drive to Wesley Chapel Road. Similar operations will occur on I-285 Southbound from Glenwood to the interchange, Northbound from Columbia Drive to the interchange, and various sections of I-20 Westbound.
A significant development is expected with the opening of a new ramp: “The new I-285 southbound to I-20 eastbound ramp is scheduled to open to the public on May 31, weather dependent.”
The Miller Road Bridge over I-20 remains closed until September 2025 as part of ongoing detour plans.
Traffic pacing operations are also planned across multiple segments throughout these dates, aiming for minimal disruption while maintaining safety standards.
