Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced overnight lane closures on Interstate 285 eastbound and westbound, starting from Friday, June 20, through Friday, June 27. These closures are due to ongoing median construction work and the removal and installation of overhead signs.
The closures will occur overnight from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., affecting two left lanes between Roswell Road and Riverside Drive. Motorists should anticipate traffic pacing in this area. Weekend work will be restricted to a single left-lane closure from 8 p.m. to 10 a.m.
The I-285 Westbound Auxiliary Lane project aims to extend the auxiliary lane between Roswell Road and Riverside Drive and includes reconstructing the Mt. Vernon Highway bridge over I-285. This project is part of the larger-scale MMIP projects across Georgia designed to improve freight movement, enhance safety, provide operational improvements, and decrease travel times on the transportation network.
Motorists are advised that exact timings may change due to weather conditions. Intermittent traffic pacing as well as lane and ramp closures may also occur within the work zone. Drivers should expect delays, exercise caution, reduce speed in work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers.
For real-time updates on work status and traffic conditions, motorists can call 511 or visit 511ga.org or download the Georgia 511 app.
“Before heading out,” advises Georgia DOT contractors, “get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions.”
