The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced temporary lane closures as part of the State Route 400 Express Lanes Project. The project involves building new express lanes along a 16-mile stretch of SR 400, from the MARTA North Springs Station in Fulton County to about one mile north of McFarland Parkway in Forsyth County.
Weather permitting, contractors will close various traffic lanes to carry out roadwork activities. The schedule and locations for these closures may change depending on conditions.
On the southbound side of SR 400, two left lanes between SR 141 (mile marker 25) and Abernathy Road (mile marker 8) will be closed nightly from February 16 to February 18, between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.
For northbound traffic, several areas will see daily or nightly closures from February 16 through February 20:
– The exit to McFarland Road will have a daily ramp shoulder closure from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
– Shoulder closures are planned between Holcomb Bridge and Encore Parkway, as well as Union Hill Road to Shiloh Road, each day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
– The exit ramp to Mansell Road will also experience daily ramp shoulder closure during the same hours.
– Nightly rolling closures affecting two right or two left lanes between Abernathy Road and SR 141 are scheduled for February 16 through February 18, from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
– From Tradewinds Parkway to Morris Road, there will be nightly right lane closures from February 16 through February 20, running from 9 p.m. until early morning.
Several cross streets near SR 400 will also be affected by nightly lane or shoulder closures during this period:
– Mansell Road and its on-ramp
– Tradewinds Parkway at Morris Road
– Webb Bridge Road at Westside Parkway
Motorists are advised that delays are expected and should use caution while traveling through these work zones. GDOT recommends reducing speed when approaching construction areas.
“Work schedule updates can occur due to weather or other factors, so check the SR 400 Express Lanes website for the latest updates,” according to GDOT officials. “Additionally, before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions by calling ‘511,’ visiting 511ga.org, or downloading the ‘Georgia 511’ app.”
