Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) contractors will implement lane closures on Interstate 20 (I-20) this weekend. The work marks the start of a resurfacing project extending from east of Liberty Road to east of State Route 5/Bill Arp Road (SR 5) in Douglas County. The project aims to improve road conditions and provide smoother travel for drivers.
Depending on weather and site conditions, single left or right lanes will close alternately on I-20 within the project zone. These closures are set to begin at 9 p.m. on Friday, May 2, lasting until 5 a.m. on Saturday.
The closures ensure the safety of both workers and motorists while crews perform milling, inlay, and resurfacing activities. The project, valued at $29 million, is slated for completion in late fall 2025.
Motorists are reminded to reduce speed in the work zone, wear seatbelts, avoid distractions, and plan travel routes ahead of time. Real-time updates are available via 511, 511ga.org, or the Georgia 511 app.
