Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) contractors will implement lane closures on Interstate 20 in Douglas County this weekend as part of an ongoing resurfacing project. The work spans from east of Liberty Road to east of State Route 5/Bill Arp Road. According to GDOT, resurfacing enhances roadway conditions and provides a smoother driving experience.
Weather permitting, alternating single left or right lanes on I-20 westbound will be closed from 9 p.m. on Friday, June 6, until 5 a.m. the following morning, and again at 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, with completion expected by late fall 2025.
These closures aim to ensure the safety of both drivers and workers as crews conduct milling, inlay, and resurfacing operations. The project has been allocated a budget of $29 million.
Motorists are reminded to reduce speed in the work zone and encouraged to wear seatbelts and avoid distractions while driving. Travelers can plan their routes using resources such as calling 511 or visiting the website 511ga.org for real-time updates on traffic conditions.
The Georgia Department of Transportation is responsible for planning, constructing, and maintaining state and federal highways in Georgia.
