Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) contractors will implement lane closures on Interstate 285 near Tucker in DeKalb County this weekend. The closures are part of a concrete rehabilitation project on I-285 between Henderson Mill Road and State Road 8/Lawrenceville Highway.
Weather permitting, two right lanes will be closed on both southbound and northbound I-285 from Northlake Parkway to Lawrenceville Highway. These closures will occur from 9 p.m. on Friday, May 9, until 5 a.m. on Saturday.
The $4.7 million project aims to repair the deteriorating condition of the roadway and is expected to be completed by summer 2025. Motorists should anticipate delays and are advised to exercise caution, reduce speed in the work zone, wear seatbelts, eliminate distractions while driving, and plan routes ahead by using resources like calling 511 or visiting 511ga.org for real-time updates.
“Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways,” said a spokesperson for Georgia DOT. “We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs. And we help local governments maintain their roads.”
The Georgia DOT emphasizes its commitment to “delivering a transportation system focused on innovation, safety, sustainability and mobility.” The department’s vision is “to boost Georgia’s competitiveness through leadership in transportation.”
