The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced lane closures on Interstate 85 southbound this weekend as part of a concrete slab rehabilitation project. The work will take place between State Route 139/Riverdale Road and State Route 3/Metropolitan Parkway in Clayton and Fulton Counties.
Weather permitting, the shoulder lanes will be closed from 9 p.m. on Friday, June 27, and Saturday, June 28, until 7 a.m. the following mornings. This project aims to repair and extend the life of the concrete materials on the roadway.
The $7.1 million project is expected to be completed by early 2026. Motorists are advised to expect delays and exercise caution while traveling through the work zone during these hours. Real-time information about work status and traffic conditions can be accessed by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or using the Georgia 511 app.
The Georgia Department of Transportation oversees planning, construction, and maintenance of state and federal highways in Georgia. It also supports bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs while assisting local governments with road maintenance.
“Georgia DOT and its nearly 4,000 employees are committed to delivering a transportation system focused on innovation, safety, sustainability and mobility,” said GDOT officials in their statement.
