The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced a series of lane and ramp closures on Interstates 16, 95, and 516 as part of the ongoing 16@95 Improvement Projects. The closures are scheduled from Tuesday, September 2, through Saturday, September 6, affecting both daytime and nighttime travel in the area.
Daytime lane closures will occur on I-16 westbound between the I-16/I-516 Interchange (milepost 164) and the I-16/I-95 Interchange (milepost 157) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on I-16 eastbound between those same interchanges from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Both directions of I-516 at the I-16 Interchange will also see intermittent right- and left-lane closures during these hours.
Nighttime work is planned for the same period with intermittent lane closures on I-16 in both directions from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., as well as double-lane closures on I-95 northbound and southbound at the I-16 overpass from mileposts 98 to 101 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Ramp detours are scheduled nightly from September 2 through September 6 between the hours of either 8 or 10 p.m. until early morning, depending on location. Detours are designed so that no more than one ramp in each interchange is closed at any given time, minimizing disruption for motorists.
A continuous single-lane closure is planned for both directions of I-16 at the I-16/I-516 Interchange starting Friday, September 5 at 7 p.m., lasting until Monday, September 8 at 5 a.m.
Tremont Road under I-16 remains closed for long-term construction until October 19, 2025. Motorists should follow posted detour routes using Telfair Road, West Gwinnett Street, and other local roads to navigate around this closure.
Labor Day holiday work restrictions will be observed from noon Friday, August 29 through Tuesday morning, September 2; no roadwork or closures that interfere with traffic—except Tremont Road—will take place during this period.
GDOT cautions that schedules may change due to weather conditions. Drivers should expect delays in work zones and are urged to exercise caution by reducing speed and staying alert for workers. Real-time updates about traffic conditions can be accessed by calling 511 or visiting https://511ga.org/.
