The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced a series of lane closures and traffic operations as part of the ongoing I-285/I-20 East Interchange project. The work is scheduled to take place from Friday, August 15, through Friday, August 22, 2025, and will affect various segments along I-20 and I-285.
According to Georgia DOT, construction partners will temporarily close interstate lanes at several locations to facilitate the reconstruction of system-to-system ramps at the interchange. The project also includes adding collector-distributor lanes and auxiliary lanes along I-20 east of the interchange and I-285 north of the interchange.
Daytime lane closures on I-20 eastbound are planned between Wesley Chapel Road and Panola Road, Columbia Drive to Wesley Chapel Road, and connecting lanes from the I-285 Interchange to Wesley Chapel Road. These closures will occur from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day. Traffic pacing operations are scheduled for certain sections from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., while flagging operations on Hillandale Drive at DeKalb Medical Parkway will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Overnight closures are also set for both directions of I-20 and for portions of I-285 northbound and southbound. Closures may involve single or double lane restrictions as well as shoulder closures during overnight hours between 7 p.m. or 8 p.m. and continuing until 6 a.m.
Westbound traffic on I-20 will see similar lane restrictions between Panola Road, Wesley Chapel Road, and Columbia Drive throughout the week during nighttime hours.
A notable detour remains in effect due to the closure of Miller Road Bridge over I-20, which is expected to last until approximately September 2025.

Georgia DOT reminds drivers that all scheduled activities are weather permitting.
