The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced a series of temporary lane closures and traffic operations as part of the ongoing I-285/I-20 East Interchange project. The scheduled closures, weather permitting, will take place from Friday, August 1 through Friday, August 8, 2025.
According to the department, these measures are necessary for reconstructing the system-to-system ramps at the interchange and adding collector-distributor and auxiliary lanes along I-20 east of the interchange and I-285 north of the interchange.
Daytime closures on I-20 Eastbound will occur between Wesley Chapel Road and Panola Road, Columbia Drive and Wesley Chapel Road, and connecting lanes from the I-285 Interchange to Wesley Chapel Road. These closures are set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily during the advisory period. Additionally, traffic pacing operations will be in effect from Columbia Drive to Panola Road between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., including ramps to both northbound and southbound I-285.
A flagging operation is also planned for Hillandale Drive each day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Overnight work includes single to double lane and shoulder closures on various segments of I-20 Eastbound and Westbound, as well as on I-285 Southbound and Northbound. These overnight activities are scheduled between 7 p.m. or 8 p.m. until 6 a.m., depending on location.
The Miller Road Bridge over I-20 remains closed for reconstruction until approximately September 2025. A detour is in place during this period.
Georgia DOT advises motorists to expect delays in affected areas and encourages drivers to seek alternate routes where possible.
