The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced a series of temporary lane closures and traffic pacing operations as part of the ongoing I-285/I-20 East Interchange project. The closures will take place from Friday, August 22, through Thursday, August 28, 2025, weather permitting.

The project involves reconstructing the system-to-system ramps at the interchange and adding new collector-distributor and auxiliary lanes along I-20 east of the interchange and I-285 north of the interchange. These improvements are intended to enhance traffic flow and safety in the area.

Daytime closures are scheduled between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., affecting single right or left lanes and shoulders on I-20 Eastbound from Wesley Chapel Road to Panola Road, Columbia Drive to Wesley Chapel Road, and connecting lanes from the I-285 Interchange to Wesley Chapel Road. Additional daytime traffic pacing operations will occur from Columbia Drive to Panola Road, including ramps to I-285 Northbound and Southbound between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

A flagging operation is planned for Hillandale Drive at DeKalb Medical Parkway from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Overnight closures will take place each night from August 22 through August 28. On I-20 Eastbound, single to double lane closures are expected between Wesley Chapel Road and Panola Road, as well as other segments between Columbia Drive, Wesley Chapel Road, and connecting lanes near the interchange. Alternating lane closures will also affect access from I-20 Eastbound to I-285 Northbound.

I-285 Southbound will see single to double lane closures from the interchange to Columbia Drive and Glenwood Road during overnight hours (8 p.m. – 6 a.m.), while similar restrictions apply on I-285 Northbound from Columbia Drive to the interchange.

On I-20 Westbound, overnight work includes single or double lane closures between Panola Road and Wesley Chapel Road as well as alternating left or right-lane closures further west toward Columbia Drive.

No roadwork or traffic restrictions are planned for Labor Day weekend; all construction activities that restrict or interfere with traffic will be suspended from noon on Friday, August 29 through Tuesday, September 2 at 10 p.m.
