The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced temporary lane closures as part of ongoing work on the I-285/I-20 East Interchange project. These closures, which are subject to weather conditions, will take place from Friday, January 23 through Friday, January 30, 2026.
The project aims to reconstruct system-to-system ramps at the interchange and add new collector-distributor and auxiliary lanes along I-20 east of the interchange and I-285 north of the interchange. The planned construction is expected to impact traffic in multiple areas throughout the week.
Daytime closures are scheduled each day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on several sections of I-20 Eastbound. This includes single right or left lane and shoulder closures between Wesley Chapel Road and Panola Road, Columbia Drive and Wesley Chapel Road, as well as connecting lanes between the I-285 Interchange and Wesley Chapel Road. Additionally, flagging operations will be in effect on Hillandale Drive at DeKalb Medical Parkway and Miller Road over I-20 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Overnight closures will occur from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., affecting both single and double lane segments on I-20 Eastbound between Wesley Chapel Road and Panola Road, connecting lanes near the interchange, Columbia Drive to Wesley Chapel Road, as well as ramp connections from I-20 Eastbound to I-285 Northbound. The Wesley Chapel off-ramp will also see right-lane closures during this period.
On I-285 Southbound and Northbound, single or double lane closures are set from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., spanning areas between the interchange and Columbia Drive or Glenwood Road.
Westbound traffic on I-20 will experience alternating single or double lane closures nightly from Panola Road through Columbia Drive starting at 9 p.m., with additional impacts near Fairington Road Overpass.
Flagging operations for local roads such as Miller Road over I-20 and Hillandale Drive at DeKalb Medical Parkway will continue throughout the week during daytime hours.
The Georgia DOT advises motorists traveling through these areas during closure times to plan for potential delays due to reduced lanes and traffic pacing measures implemented by construction partners.
