The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced temporary lane closures and traffic pacing operations on the I-285/I-20 East Interchange project. The work is scheduled to take place from Friday, September 5, through Friday, September 12, 2025, weather permitting.
The project aims to reconstruct the system-to-system ramps at the I-285/I-20 East Interchange. It will also add a combination of collector-distributor lanes and auxiliary lanes along I-20 east of the interchange and I-285 north of the interchange.
During daytime hours from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., single lane and shoulder closures are planned for multiple sections of I-20 eastbound, including stretches from Wesley Chapel Road to Panola Road, Columbia Drive to Wesley Chapel Road, and connecting lanes between the I-285 Interchange and Wesley Chapel Road. Additional traffic pacing operations will occur between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. on eastbound lanes from Columbia Drive to Panola Road and on ramps connecting to I-285 northbound and southbound. Traffic pacing will also take place on I-285 northbound from Columbia Drive to Glenwood Road and southbound from Glenwood Road to Columbia Drive between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Flagging operations are scheduled for Hillandale Drive at DeKalb Medical Parkway and Miller Road Bridge over I-20 during daytime hours.
Overnight work is set for various segments with lane closures on both eastbound and westbound sides of I-20 as well as northbound and southbound directions of I-285. These closures will generally run from evening into early morning hours, affecting areas such as Panola Road, Wesley Chapel Road, Columbia Drive, Glenwood Road, entrance ramps, off ramps, and collector-distributor lanes.
Georgia DOT advises motorists in the affected areas to expect delays due to these activities. The department encourages drivers to be cautious when traveling through construction zones.
