The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced a series of temporary lane closures on the I-285/I-20 East Interchange as part of an ongoing construction project. The work, scheduled from Friday, February 13, through Friday, February 20, 2026, is dependent on weather conditions.
The project aims to reconstruct the system-to-system ramps at the interchange and add collector-distributor lanes and auxiliary lanes along I-20 east of the interchange and I-285 north of the interchange.
Daytime closures will take place each day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on various sections of I-20 Eastbound. These include single right or left lane and shoulder closures between Wesley Chapel Road and Panola Road, Columbia Drive to Wesley Chapel Road, and Panola Road to Fairington Road. Additionally, flagging operations are planned for Hillandale Drive at DeKalb Medical Parkway, Miller Road over I-20, and Chupp Way at Fairington Road from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Overnight closures and traffic pacing will occur nightly from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., affecting both eastbound and westbound directions on I-20 as well as northbound and southbound lanes on I-285. These include single to double lane closures in multiple segments such as Wesley Chapel Road to Panola Road, Columbia Drive to Wesley Chapel Road, Panola Road to Fairington Overpass, and connecting lanes between the I-285 Interchange and Wesley Chapel Road.
There will also be specific ramp closures including a single right-lane closure on the Wesley Chapel off-ramp during overnight hours.
Southbound I-285 will see single to double left or right lane closures from the interchange to Columbia Drive and Glenwood to the interchange nightly from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Northbound I-285 will have similar closures from Columbia Drive to the interchange and from the interchange to Glenwood during these hours.
Westbound I-20 will experience alternating single left or right lane closures between Panola Road and Wesley Chapel Road as well as between Fairington Overpass and Panola Road each night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Flagging operations are also scheduled daily for Miller Road over I-20, Hillandale Drive at DeKalb Medical Parkway, and Chupp Way at Fairington Road between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
All schedules are subject to change depending on weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.
