The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced upcoming lane closures related to the I-285/I-20 West Interchange Project. The project involves reconstructing and widening several interstate ramps at the interchange, as well as adding collector-distributor lanes, connecting lanes, and auxiliary lanes along I-20 west and I-285 north of the interchange.
Weather permitting, contractors will implement temporary lane closures in several areas to perform roadwork activities. Specific closures are scheduled as follows:
On I-285 Northbound, from Cascade Road to Bolton Road, there will be single right-lane and right-shoulder closures nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., and double right-lane and right-shoulder closures from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., starting Monday, September 8 through Saturday, September 13.
For I-285 Southbound, pacing operations affecting all lanes and shoulders will occur between SR 280/South Cobb Drive and the I-20 Interchange daily from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., Monday through Thursday, September 8–11. Additionally, single right-lane and right-shoulder closures will take place nightly from US 78/Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway to SR 139/MLK Jr. Drive between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., September 8–13.
I-20 Westbound will see single right-lane and right-shoulder closures from Anderson Avenue underpass to Riverside Parkway each night from September 8–13 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
On I-20 Eastbound, alternating single right-lane/right-shoulder and left-lane/left-shoulder closures are planned nightly from Riverside Parkway to the I-285 Interchange during the same period.
Other locations include SR 70/Fulton Industrial Boulevard southbound (from Wendell Drive to Shirley Drive) with nightly single right-lane/right-shoulder closures from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., as well as SR 139/MLK Jr. Drive northbound (from Old Gordon Road to Adamsville Drive) with similar closure times.
Motorists are advised that delays are expected in these areas. Drivers should exercise caution, reduce speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers.
