The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced upcoming lane closures related to the I-285/I-20 West Interchange project. The project involves reconstructing and widening several interstate ramps at the interchange, as well as adding collector-distributor lanes, connecting lanes, and auxiliary lanes along I-20 west and I-285 north of the interchange.
According to Georgia DOT, weather permitting, contractors will temporarily close traffic lanes in multiple areas to carry out roadwork activities from Monday, August 4 through Friday, August 8. The affected locations and times are as follows:
On I-285 Northbound between Cascade Road and Bolton Road, there will be a single right-lane and right-shoulder closure nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
On I-285 Southbound from SR 280/South Cobb Drive to the I-20 Interchange, pacing operations affecting all lanes and shoulders will occur daily from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Additionally, between SR 280/South Cobb Drive and SR 139/MLK Jr. Drive, there will be a single right-lane and right-shoulder closure nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
I-20 Westbound between Anderson Avenue underpass and Riverside Parkway will have a single right-lane and right-shoulder closure each night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
I-20 Eastbound from Riverside Parkway to the I-285 Interchange will see alternating single lane closures on both sides nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., with double right-lane closures scheduled for the same area nightly from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Other impacted routes include SR 70/Fulton Industrial Boulevard southbound from Wendell Drive to Shirley Drive with nightly closures of one lane and shoulder between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., as well as SR 139/MLK Jr. Drive northbound from Old Gordon Road to Adamsville Drive with similar closures during those hours.
Motorists are advised by Georgia DOT: “Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers.” They also recommend checking real-time information on work status and traffic conditions by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or downloading the Georgia 511 app.
