The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced a series of lane closures and traffic impacts for the I-285/I-20 West Interchange Project, scheduled to take place from February 8 to February 13, 2026. The project involves reconstructing and widening several interstate ramps at the interchange, as well as adding collector-distributor lanes, connecting lanes, and auxiliary lanes along I-20 west and I-285 north of the interchange.
According to Georgia DOT, weather permitting, contractors will temporarily close various traffic lanes in order to perform roadwork activities. Closures are planned on both northbound and southbound sections of I-285 between Cascade Road and Bolton Road, as well as between US 78/Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway and SR 139/MLK Jr. Drive. These closures include single and double right-lane closures during nighttime hours.
On I-20 westbound, there will be double right-lane closures from Anderson Avenue underpass to Riverside Parkway overnight from February 8 through February 11. Additional pacing operations affecting all lanes are scheduled between SR 139/MLK Jr. Drive and the I-285 Interchange during daytime hours.
I-20 eastbound will see double left-lane closures nightly from Riverside Parkway to the I-285 Interchange between February 9 and February 12. Pacing operations affecting all lanes will also occur overnight on February 10 and February 11 in this area.
Other impacted locations include single right-lane closures on SR 70/Fulton Industrial Boulevard southbound from Wendell Drive to Shirley Drive, SR 139/MLK Jr. Drive northbound from Old Gordon Road to Adamsville Drive, and flagging operations on Harwell Road from Collier Drive to Amhurst Drive during nighttime hours throughout the week.
Motorists are advised by Georgia DOT: “expect delays, exercise caution, reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers.” The department encourages drivers to obtain real-time updates on work status or traffic conditions by calling 511 or visiting https://511ga.org/.
