Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced temporary lane closures on interstate highways for the I-285/I-20 West Interchange project. The closures are necessary for geotechnical borings and utility location in preparation for upcoming construction. Weather permitting, the closures will occur nightly at various locations.

The project aims to reconstruct and widen several interstate ramps at the I-285/I-20 West Interchange. It will also add a combination of collector-distributor lanes, connecting lanes, and auxiliary lanes along I-20 west and I-285 north of the interchange.

Daytime traffic pacing operations are scheduled from Tuesday, July 22 through Thursday, July 24, between 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. These will affect I-285 southbound from South Cobb Drive to the I-20 Interchange.

Nighttime single-lane closures are planned from Monday, July 21 through Friday, July 25 at various locations including Six Flags Parkway, Harwell Road, Delmar Lane, Fairburn Road, Collier Drive, State Route (SR) 70/Fulton Industrial Boulevard southbound, SR 139/Martin Luther King Jr. Drive northbound, I-20 westbound and eastbound sections, and sections of I-285.

Advisory notes indicate that exact times may change due to weather conditions. Motorists should expect delays and exercise caution when traveling through work zones. For real-time updates on work status and traffic conditions call 511 or visit 511ga.org.
