The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced that lane closures will take place on Interstate 85 (I-85) this weekend as part of a concrete slab rehabilitation project. The project spans five miles between State Route 139/Riverdale Road and State Route 3/Metropolitan Parkway in Clayton and Fulton Counties.
Weather permitting, the shoulder lanes on I-85 will be closed from 9 p.m. on Friday, June 13 until 7 a.m. Saturday. This initiative aims to repair and extend the lifespan of the concrete materials on the roadway.
The $7.1 million project is expected to be completed by early 2026. Motorists are advised to anticipate delays, exercise caution, and reduce speed while traveling through the work zone during these hours. For real-time updates on traffic conditions, drivers can call 511, visit 511ga.org, or use the Georgia 511 app.
According to GDOT: “Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways. We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs. And we help local governments maintain their roads.” The department’s vision includes enhancing Georgia’s competitiveness through leadership in transportation.
