The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced lane closures on Interstate 85 (I-85) this weekend as part of a concrete slab rehabilitation project. The work will take place over five miles between State Route 139/Riverdale Road and State Route 3/Metropolitan Parkway in Clayton and Fulton Counties.
Weather permitting, the shoulder lanes on I-85 southbound will be closed from Metropolitan Parkway to Riverdale Road starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, June 20, and Saturday, June 21, until 7 a.m. the following mornings.
This project is valued at $7.1 million and is expected to be completed by early 2026.
Motorists should anticipate delays and are advised to exercise caution and reduce speed while traveling through the work zone during these hours. Real-time updates on traffic conditions can be accessed by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or using the Georgia 511 app.
The GDOT manages Georgia’s state and federal highways and supports local governments in maintaining roads. The department’s nearly 4,000 employees focus on delivering an innovative, safe, sustainable transportation system that enhances mobility across the state. GDOT’s vision aims to improve Georgia’s competitiveness through leadership in transportation.
