The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced a series of temporary lane closures on the I-285/I-20 East Interchange project, scheduled from January 2 to January 9, 2026. The closures are part of ongoing construction aimed at reconstructing system-to-system ramps and adding new collector-distributor and auxiliary lanes along I-20 east of the interchange and I-285 north of the interchange.
Daytime closures will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on I-20 eastbound between Wesley Chapel Road and Panola Road, as well as between Columbia Drive and Wesley Chapel Road. Additional single-lane and shoulder closures will occur on connecting lanes from the I-285 Interchange to Wesley Chapel Road during these hours.
Flagging operations are planned for Hillandale Drive at DeKalb Medical Parkway and Miller Road over I-20, both running daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Overnight work is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., affecting various segments of I-20 eastbound, including multiple right or left lane and shoulder closures between Columbia Drive, Wesley Chapel Road, Panola Road, and Fairington Road Overpass. There will also be single to double lane closures for traffic transitioning from I-20 eastbound to I-285 northbound.
On the westbound side of I-20, single to double left-lane closures are set between Wesley Chapel Road and Columbia Drive each night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., with additional alternating lane and shoulder closures occurring between Panola Road and Wesley Chapel Road.
I-285 southbound will see similar overnight single or double lane closures between the interchange and Columbia Drive as well as Glenwood Road. Northbound lanes on I-285 will have comparable restrictions in both directions near Columbia Drive, Glenwood, and the interchange area during nighttime hours.
The Georgia DOT reminds drivers that all schedules are subject to change based on weather conditions.
