The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced a series of lane and ramp closures on Interstate 16 (I-16), Interstate 95 (I-95), and Interstate 516 (I-516) as part of the ongoing 16@95 Improvement Projects. These projects aim to widen I-16 and reconstruct the I-16/I-95 Interchange, with additional bridge work at the I-16/I-516 Interchange.
Closures are scheduled from Monday, December 8, through Saturday, December 13. Daytime intermittent right- and left-lane closures will occur on I-16 westbound between the I-16/I-516 Interchange (milepost 164) and the I-16/I-95 Interchange (milepost 157) from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., and on I-16 eastbound in the reverse direction from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Similar daytime closures are planned for both directions of I-516 at the I-16 Interchange.
Nighttime closures include intermittent lane restrictions on these same stretches from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., along with double-lane closures on I-95 northbound and southbound at the I-16 overpass during overnight hours.
A series of nightly ramp detours will be in effect between December 8 and December 13, typically running from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Detours affect key connections between I-16, I-95, and I-516, with alternate routes provided for each closure. Only one ramp at either interchange will be closed at any given time to maintain traffic flow.
Tremont Road under I-16 remains closed for long-term construction until December 14, 2025. Motorists are directed to use Telfair Road, West Gwinnett Street, and designated ramps as alternatives depending on their direction of travel.
Georgia DOT advises that exact closure times may change due to weather conditions. Additional intermittent traffic pacing or unplanned closures may also occur within work zones. Drivers are urged to expect delays, reduce speed through work areas, stay alert for workers, and check real-time updates before traveling by calling 511 or visiting 511ga.org.
