Interstate 16 and Interstate 95 in Georgia will experience a series of lane closures as part of the ongoing 16@95 Improvement Projects. The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) announced that these closures are scheduled to take place from Sunday, February 8, through Saturday, February 14, weather permitting.
The construction work is intended to widen I-16 and reconstruct the I-16/I-95 Interchange. Lane closures will occur on both I-16 and I-516 in both directions during daytime and nighttime hours. Daytime closures are set between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., while nighttime closures will run from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. In addition, double-lane closures on I-95 northbound and southbound at the I-16 overpass are planned from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Detours have been established for affected ramps. For example, motorists traveling eastbound on I-16 seeking access to I-516 eastbound or westbound at Exit 164 will need to follow specific routes involving exit ramps and local roads before re-entering the interstate system.
The Department advised drivers that “exact time may change due to weather conditions.” It also noted that there may be “intermittent traffic pacing and lane and ramp closures that occur within the work zone in addition to this notice.” Motorists are encouraged to expect delays, exercise caution, reduce speed through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers.
