Daytime and nighttime lane closures are scheduled for Interstate 16 and Interstate 95 in Chatham County as part of the ongoing 16@95 Improvement Projects, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). The closures will take place from Sunday, January 25, through Saturday, January 31.
During daytime hours, intermittent right- and left-lane closures will occur on I-16 westbound between the I-16/I-516 Interchange (milepost 164) and the I-16/I-95 Interchange (milepost 157) from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Similar lane closures are planned for I-16 eastbound from milepost 157 to milepost 164 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. On I-516, both westbound and eastbound lanes at the I-16 Interchange will have intermittent closures from milepost 5 to milepost 6 during the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Nighttime work will include intermittent right- and left-lane closures on both directions of I-16 between the same interchanges from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., as well as double-lane closures on I-95 northbound at the I-16 overpass (mileposts 98 to 100) and southbound at the same location (mileposts 101 to 98) from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Additional nighttime intermittent lane closures are scheduled for I-516 westbound and eastbound at the I-16 Interchange during these same overnight hours.
Ramp detours will also be in effect. For drivers traveling on I-16 eastbound wishing to access I-516 eastbound via Exit 164, GDOT advises: “Motorists traveling on I-16 eastbound should take the I-516 exit (Exit 164), then take the I-516 West exit ramp, then exit at West Gwinnett Street (Exit 6), turn left off the ramp, then turn left to access I-516 eastbound.”
For those needing access from I-16 eastbound to I-516 westbound via Exit 164 between Monday, January 26, and Saturday, January 31 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m., GDOT instructs: “Motorists traveling on I-16 eastbound should take the I-516 exit (Exit 164), then take the I-516 East exit ramp, then exit at US 17/US 80/Ogeechee Road (Exit 3), turn left off the ramp, then turn left to access I‑516 westbound.”
These measures are intended to facilitate progress on improvement projects in this busy transportation corridor while maintaining safety for motorists and workers.
