The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced temporary lane closures on the I-285/I-20 East Interchange project, scheduled to take place from Friday, December 12, through Friday, December 19, 2025. The closures are dependent on weather conditions and are part of ongoing efforts to reconstruct the system-to-system ramps at the interchange and add new collector-distributor and auxiliary lanes along I-20 east of the interchange and I-285 north of the interchange.
Daytime closures will occur each day from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on various sections of I-20 eastbound. These include single right or left lane and shoulder closures between Wesley Chapel Road (mile marker 69.5) and Panola Road (mile marker 71.3), between Columbia Drive (mile marker 66.8) and Wesley Chapel Road, as well as on connecting lanes from the I-285 Interchange to Wesley Chapel Road.
Flagging operations are also planned during daytime hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Miller Road over I-20 and at Hillandale Drive at DeKalb Medical Parkway.
Overnight closures will affect both directions of travel, with work scheduled between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m., as well as other specified time frames for different locations. On I-20 eastbound, single to double lane and shoulder closures will take place in multiple segments including from Wesley Chapel Road to Panola Road, Columbia Drive to Wesley Chapel Road, connecting lanes near the interchange, and additional restrictions for ramps such as the off-ramp at Wesley Chapel.
I-285 southbound will see single to double lane closures from the interchange area to Columbia Drive and Glenwood during overnight hours starting at 8 p.m., while similar restrictions will be in effect for northbound traffic between Columbia Drive and Glenwood.
Westbound travelers on I-20 should expect alternating left or right lane closures nightly between Panola Road, Fairington Road Overpass, Wesley Chapel Road, and Columbia Drive from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m.
The Georgia DOT advises motorists traveling through these areas during construction periods to plan for possible delays due to these necessary safety measures.
