The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced temporary lane closures as part of the I-285/I-20 West Interchange project in Fulton and Cobb counties. The closures are scheduled to take place from Monday, January 12, through Friday, January 16, weather permitting.
The project involves reconstructing and widening several ramps at the interchange. It will also add collector-distributor lanes, connecting lanes, and auxiliary lanes along I-20 west and I-285 north of the interchange.
Specific lane closures include single and double right-lane and shoulder closures on I-285 northbound between Cascade Road and Bolton Road from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., with additional double lane closures beginning at 11 p.m. Southbound on I-285, there will be similar closures between US 78/Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway and SR 139/MLK Jr. Drive during the same hours. Pacing operations affecting all lanes and shoulders are planned for SR 280/South Cobb Drive to the I-20 Interchange from 10:30 a.m. to noon daily until Thursday, January 15.
On I-20 westbound, single right-lane and shoulder closures will occur nightly between Anderson Avenue underpass and Riverside Parkway. There will also be pacing operations from SR 139/MLK Jr. Drive to the I-285 Interchange each day until Thursday.
Eastbound on I-20, alternating single lane and shoulder closures are scheduled nightly between Riverside Parkway and the I-285 Interchange.
Other affected locations include SR 70/Fulton Industrial Boulevard southbound from Wendell Drive to Shirley Drive; SR 139/MLK Jr. Drive northbound from Old Gordon Road to Adamsville Drive; Collier Drive from Harwell Road to Collier Court; Delmar Lane from Arlington Drive to Harwell Road; and Harwell Road from Collier Drive to Amhurst Drive. These areas will see flagging operations or single lane closures during overnight hours.
Georgia DOT advises that exact closure times may change due to weather conditions. Additional intermittent traffic pacing, as well as lane and ramp closures within work zones, may occur without prior notice.
Motorists are encouraged to expect delays, use caution, reduce speed in work zones, stay alert for workers, and check real-time updates before traveling by calling 511 or visiting https://511ga.org/. More information about the project is available at https://0013918-gdot.hub.arcgis.com/.
“Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, stay alert, and watch for workers,” according to Georgia DOT.
