The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced upcoming lane and ramp closures as part of the 16@95 Improvement Projects. These projects involve widening I-16 and reconstructing the I-16/I-95 Interchange. The closures are scheduled to take place between December 29, 2025, and January 17, 2026, with both daytime and nighttime work planned.
Daytime intermittent right and left lane closures will occur on I-16 westbound from the I-16/I-516 Interchange to the I-16/I-95 Interchange, as well as on I-16 eastbound in the opposite direction. Similar lane closures are also planned for I-516 in both directions at the I-16 Interchange.
Nighttime work will include intermittent and double lane closures on sections of I-16, I-95, and I-516 near key interchanges. Double lane closures are specifically noted for the I-95 northbound and southbound lanes at the I-16 overpass.
A long-term closure is already in effect for Tremont Road under I-16 through January 18, 2026. Detours are provided for motorists traveling north or south of this section of Tremont Road.
No construction activities that restrict or interfere with traffic will be conducted from Sunday night, December 28, through early morning Wednesday, December 31.
From January 2 through January 17, additional daytime and nighttime intermittent lane closures will continue at various locations along I-16 and I-516. Double lane closures will also persist on parts of I-95 during overnight hours.
Advance notice is given for several detours affecting ramps connecting major routes including I-16 eastbound to I-516 eastbound (Exit 164), multiple connections between I-516 and I-16 (Exit 5), as well as ramps linking both directions of travel between I-95 and I-16. Each detour includes specific instructions for alternate routes using nearby exits such as West Gwinnett Street, Chatham Parkway, SR 204 (Exit 94), and US Highway 80 (Exit 102).
According to Georgia DOT, “Closures and detours will be coordinated to ensure proper maintenance of traffic. No more than one ramp in the I‑95/I‑16 Interchange or the I‑16/I‑516 Interchange will be closed at a time.”
