The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced a series of lane and ramp closures as part of the ongoing 16@95 Improvement Projects. These projects involve widening I-16 and reconstructing the I-16/I-95 Interchange, with additional bridge work on I-95 and at the I-16/I-516 Interchange.

Weather permitting, daytime intermittent right- and left-lane closures are scheduled for Monday, August 25, through Friday, August 29. Affected areas include I-16 westbound from the I-16/I-516 Interchange to the I-16/I-95 Interchange, I-16 eastbound in the opposite direction, and both directions of I-516 at the I-16 Interchange.

Nighttime closures will also occur during this period. From Monday, August 25, through Thursday, August 28, there will be intermittent lane closures on both directions of I-16 between the two interchanges from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., as well as double-lane closures on I-95 northbound and southbound at the I-16 overpass between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Detours have been established for several ramps at the interchanges during nighttime hours from August 25 through August 28. For example, motorists traveling on I-16 westbound who need to access either direction of I-95 will be directed to alternate exits before returning to their intended route. Similar detours apply for those traveling from I-95 onto various ramps connecting to I-16.

A long-term closure remains in place for Tremont Road under I-16 until August 31, 2025. Motorists are instructed to use Telfair Road and West Gwinnett Street as alternative routes depending on their direction of travel.

To minimize disruptions during Labor Day weekend, Georgia DOT will suspend most roadwork that restricts or interferes with traffic from noon on Friday, August 29 through Tuesday morning, September 2. The exception is ongoing work on Tremont Road.

Further lane and ramp closures are planned after Labor Day. Between September 2 and September 13, both daytime and nighttime intermittent closures will continue along similar stretches of highway. Additional detours will be coordinated so that no more than one ramp is closed at any interchange at a time.

Georgia DOT advises drivers to expect delays throughout these periods. The agency encourages motorists to exercise caution in work zones by reducing speed and staying alert for workers. Real-time updates are available via phone by calling 511 or online at www.511ga.org.

According to Georgia DOT officials: “Closures and detours will be coordinated to ensure proper maintenance of traffic.”
