The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced upcoming lane closures as part of the State Route 400 Express Lanes Project. The construction involves adding new express lanes in both directions along a 16-mile section of SR 400, from the MARTA North Springs Station in Fulton County to about one mile north of McFarland Parkway in Forsyth County.
Weather permitting, contractors will temporarily close traffic lanes at various locations to perform roadwork activities related to the project. The scheduled closures are set to begin on Sunday, August 17 and continue through Friday, August 22, with most work occurring nightly between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Southbound SR 400 will see single left-lane and shoulder closures between SR 141 and Abernathy Road, as well as right-lane and shoulder closures along the same stretches. There will also be mobile lane closures on several entrance and exit ramps, including those at MARTA Southbound Exit, McFarland Parkway, Northridge Road, and others during the same overnight hours.
Northbound SR 400 will experience similar single-lane closures between Abernathy Road and SR 141. Right-lane and shoulder closures are planned for these sections as well as mobile lane restrictions on ramps at Holcomb Bridge Road, MARTA Northbound Entrance, McFarland Exit, Northridge Exit, among others.
In addition to mainline work on SR 400, rolling-lane closures are scheduled for multiple local roads intersecting or near the highway corridor from Monday, August 18 through Sunday, August 24 during nighttime hours. Affected roads include Mt. Vernon Highway, Barfield Road/Mercedes-Benz Drive, Peachtree Dunwoody Road, Dalrymple Road/Spalding Drive, Pitts Road, Northridge Road, Roberts Drive (at two segments), Riverside Road/Old Alabama Road, Mansell Road, Encore Parkway, Haynes Bridge Road, Kimball Bridge Road, Webb Bridge Road and Westside Parkway among others.
Motorists traveling through these areas should expect delays and are advised to exercise caution while driving in work zones. Drivers are encouraged to reduce speed when approaching active construction sites.
