Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced upcoming lane closures as part of the US 280 Widening Project. Contractors will close the right lane at specified locations along I-16 to install highway signs, depending on weather conditions. Law enforcement officers will be present to assist during these operations, and motorists should anticipate delays.

The US 280 Widening project is one component of broader efforts in Bryan County, which also include improvements to the I-16 Frontage and Old Cuyler Road Interchange. These projects aim to enhance access for new developments in the area by widening roadways, building roundabouts, constructing a new frontage road along I-16, and creating a new interchange on I-16.

According to Georgia DOT, “Officers will be on-site to assist, and drivers should expect delays.”

Nighttime closures are scheduled as follows:
– From Wednesday, August 20 through Thursday, August 21 between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m., there will be a right-lane closure on I-16 eastbound between milepost (MP) 140 and exit 143.
– From Thursday, August 21 through Friday, August 22 during the same hours, a right-lane closure will occur on I-16 westbound between MP 146 and exit 143.

Georgia DOT advises motorists: “Motorists are advised to expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. Before heading out, get real-time information on work status and traffic conditions. Call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.”

Project schedules may change based on weather or other factors. Updates can be found on Georgia DOT’s The Network page. Additional details about the improvement projects are available at us280-I16frontage-oldcuylerrd-0016618 (arcgis.com).
