The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced weekend lane closures on Interstate 75 for a resurfacing project. The work will take place from the I-75/I-285 interchange in Clayton County to State Route 54/University Avenue in Fulton County. The resurfacing aims to improve the deteriorating condition of the roadway, preserving its lifecycle and providing a smoother ride for drivers.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes or allow additional travel time during these closures. Weather permitting, the scheduled closures are as follows:

– From 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday, four right lanes on I-75 southbound between Capitol Avenue/Abernathy Road and University Avenue will be closed. Similarly, four right lanes on I-75 northbound between SR 166/Langford Parkway and University Avenue will be closed.

– The University Avenue southbound entrance to I-75 will also be closed with traffic detoured to exit at SR 166/Langford Parkway to return to I-75 northbound.

Additionally, from 9 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday, three left lanes on I-75 northbound between I-285 and Cleveland Avenue will be closed for resurfacing work. On Sunday from 7 p.m. until Monday at 5 a.m., three left lanes on both northbound and southbound sides between I-285 and Cleveland Avenue will be affected.

The $46 million project is expected to be completed by summer 2025. GDOT emphasizes that lane closures are necessary for the safety of workers and drivers.

Motorists should anticipate delays, exercise caution, and reduce speed while traveling through the work zone during project hours. Real-time updates on work status and traffic conditions can be obtained by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or downloading the Georgia 511 app.

GDOT is responsible for planning, constructing, and maintaining Georgia’s state and federal highways as well as involvement in various transportation programs including bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike, and pedestrian initiatives.
